Which side is my car's fuel lid on? Left side? Right side?

As part of the motoring media, we are required to jump into many cars and drive around to test out the real world practicality of cars available on the market.
Sometimes we are given cars for more than the standard 3 days. Like the Volvo XC40 T5 that Volvo Malaysia has kindly loan me for video purposes for a total of 10 days.
Guess which side the Volvo XC40's fuel lid is on!
The XC40 has a recorded fuel consumption at 7.7 litres/ 100km and I think it’s totally believable as the SUV made the trip from KL to Melaka and back left me with a little over a quarter tank of fuel.
Not bad considering that the SUV is heavier than most of its segment competitors and endured quite a lot of traffic crawling around Melaka as well.

When it was time to refuel the car, it was a relief that the XC40 has a small arrow next to their fuel gauge indicator to tell me which side of the car the fuel lid is.
Yes, whether you are refuelling a car rented from a car sharing app or just had a moment of forgetfulness, now you can easily tell which side the fuel lid is on via the fuel gauge indicator in the instrument cluster.
This applies to most new cars, so if the arrow on the indicator points towards the left, your fuel lid is located on the left and the same for the right side.
This is the simplest and most helpful indication car manufacturers have installed on new cars and we can’t help but scream a resounding “finally” at them.
This practice only started in the 90s era so if you're driving a car from the 1960s, then unfortunately you're out of luck!
