VinFast's first factory outside of Vietnam has begun construction, and it is set to be built at West Java, Indonesia. The plant is to begin operations in the first quarter of 2025, reports Otobisnis.id.
With an investment of USD 200 million (~RM 935 million), the VinFast Auto Subang assembly facility covers 170 hectares, with 30% of the area dedicated to buildings for body production, general assembly, painting, and inspection areas.
It is estimated that 50,000 models, including the VF 3, VF 5, VF 6, and VF 7 right-hand drive versions, will be produced there annually, for domestic and export markets, including Malaysia.
Moeldoko, Chief of Staff to the President of the Republic of Indonesia, stated, "Subang is a very strategic area, not too far from Kertajati Airport, very close to Patimban seaport, and connected to toll roads leading to Jakarta and Cirebon. This makes the area very promising."
He added, "The Indonesian government strongly encourages foreign investment in our country, especially in the automotive industry. We believe that VinFast's presence will bring technological innovation and knowledge transfer that are crucial to boosting the competitiveness of our national automotive industry."
Temmy Wiradjaja, CEO of VinFast Indonesia, said, "This underscores VinFast Auto's strategic expansion and competitiveness in Southeast Asia, marking an important milestone in our strategy to become a leading player in one of the most promising electric vehicle markets in the region."
VinFast Auto has also launched two flagship models, the VF 5 and VF e34 in the country. The manufacturer has partnered with distributors to provide electric car sales.
"Currently, we have signed MoUs with 21 dealer groups in Jakarta. Two showrooms are already operational, and by the end of this month, there will be 10 dealers, including outside Jakarta such as in Bali," concluded Temmy.
