We know the Toyota Corolla Altis is a car Adrian can fall asleep in. It's feels like a giant mattress, and nobody is mistaking it for a racecar anytime soon.

Especially one that's tackling the Nürburgring. 

But Toyota Gazoo Racing Motorsport Thailand (TGRMT) aren't any 'nobody', so they thought that the Altis would make for a good race car. And would you believe it, it actually is!

For one, it looks fantastic. All manner of strakes, canards and little aero bits shape air around the car, and it's obvious that you're not getting any Android Auto or even carpets inside - they're all probably in a skip somewhere in Thailand.

Racing is serious business, and for a Corolla to share tarmac with things like the Ferrari 488 GT3 and BMW M4 GT4, it's got to have tons of work done under the hood as well. 

All that work is absolutely worth it as TGRMT scored a one-two finish with both Altises (Altii?) in last week's ADAC Total 24 Hours Race in Nürburgring in the Super Production 3 category.

Piloted by Chen Jian Hong, Grant Supaphongs and Naoki Kawamura, the winning Altis #120 finished the race in 24:05:51.477, completing 67 laps for an overall position of 60th out of 97 cars.

Car #119 - finishing in 2nd place, overall 67th and driven by Suttipong Smittachartch, Nattavude Charoensukhawatana and Manat Kulapalanont - crossed the finish line at 24:10:51.742 and after 65 laps.

Their result bests other contenders in the category driving Toyota 86s and Renault Clios. 

All in, it's massively impressive news for Thai motorsport. Now, maybe we need to look at creating our own race-prepped Altis...
