It appears that the Toyota GR Sport line up in Malaysia will be growing come this Monday, 28 August 2023, as UMW Toyota Motor (UMWT) has teased the new Toyota Corolla GR Sport on its social media pages.
Come 8pm this Monday, the sporty C-segment sedan will bring the number of GR Sport models here to 3, following the Corolla Cross and Hilux.
Though the teaser was just that, a teaser, with not much other info, our previous sightings of a price list and spec sheet for the Corolla GR Sport have detailed the following sporty additions:
Nonetheless, there are 2 different front bumper designs for the Corolla GR Sport, depending on the market. While the teaser does give us a fair idea of which one we’ll be getting, nothing’s set in stone until Monday 8pm.
The price list states that the GR Sport package will be priced at RM 5,000 but is only applicable to the more premium 1.8G variant. Taking into account the estimated RM 147,800 price, the GR Sport package should bring the total to around RM 152,000. All this will only be confirmed on Monday.
Don’t expect any extra grunt under the hood though. The Corolla GR Sport should keep its 2ZR-FE 1.8-litre naturally-aspirated inline-4 that makes the same 139 PS and 172 Nm of torque. Same goes for the transmission, we’d be surprised if there were changes to the 7-speed CVT driving the front wheels.
“Better late than never.” Some despise it, others begrudgingly agree with it but he swears by it… much to the chagrin of everyone around him. That unfortunately stems from all of his project cars not running most of the time, which in turn is testament to his questionable decision-making skills in life. A culmination of many wrongs fortunately making a right; much like his project cars on the rare occasions they run, he’s still trying to figure out if another project car is the way to go.
