These Toyota Corolla KE70 and AE90 are still cared for by a Toyota dealer

Toyota authorized dealer Laser Motor’s outlet in Seksyen 19 Petaling Jaya has a quite a good reputation as a friendly neighbourhood dealer that PJ folks trust.
For various reasons, this particular Toyota dealer sees an unusually high number of old Toyota cars being sent there for maintenance work, even if the cars are well past (sometimes decades past) their warranty period.
It’s something that even the people at UMW Toyota Motor’s headquarters find difficult to explain (because only then can the success be repeated elsewhere).
Perhaps it’s the combination of convenient location, reasonable pricing, and a high number of retirees living around the area, many of whom see very little reason to replace their old but trusty Toyota - the sort of people who value peace-of-mind more than saving a little bit of money.
Toyota Laser Motor Seksyen 19’s Facebook page recently posted two classic Toyota Corollas that came in for their regular maintenance, one KE70 and one AE90 model.
What’s amazing is that these two cars are not the usual restored, hidden under cover type of classics, but are well used examples that are still regularly driven by their owners.
The 1988 AE90 Corolla seen here is owned by Christine, who also owns two more Corollas, a 1982 and 1985 model, both are currently being used by her brother.
Christine’s AE90 has been serviced by authorized Toyota service centres since new, and she has been visiting Laser Motor’s PJ outlet for the last 14 years.
Her other two Corollas are also maintained by Laser Motor. Christine insists that only original Toyota parts are used in maintaining her car and she only trusts authorized Toyota outlets to do the maintenance jobs.
Ong’s KE70 Corolla was purchased in 1980 by his late-sister. For most of the car’s life, the KE70 has been maintained by Toyota’s authorized service centres.
Ong says the reason he continue to maintain his 41-year old Corolla with Laser Motor is because he prefers the manufacturer (Toyota) to take care of his cherished ride, according to the factory's standard. He also appreciates the added peace-of-mind that only original Toyota parts are used. The convenient location helps too.
Both Corollas have never given any problems to their owners apart from the usual maintenance work to replace wear-and-tear items.
Cynics might think that this was a publicity exercise arranged by the dealer, but here’s a photo of Christine’s AE90 Corolla, taken in February 2019.
This is one of those times where the stereotypical "Accident-free, lady owner, full service records" ad listing is a genuine one.
Earlier this year, Laser Motor also did work on a Toyota Hiace with 1 million km on the odometer, proving that even businesses and fleet operators trust their trade tools with Laser Motor.
