Your eyes are not deceiving you, the Lexus NX you’re looking at really is sparkling prettier than Twilight's Edward Cullen ever could. Known as the Lexus NX Diamond, the one-off SUV was created as part of Lexus Spain’s NX hybrid and plug-in hybrid launch campaign in the country.

The NX Diamond was created under the motto ‘Feel more at every moment’, Lexus hopes that the car would convey the sensory and driving appeal of the new SUV.

Inspired by Antwerp, aka the Diamond Quarter, the effect on the NX Diamond was achieved by applying a fine layer of diamond powder to the bodywork so the car would illuminate and reflect the brightness characteristic of diamonds.

To keep with the theme, Lexus even set up the NX Diamond’s surroundings to mimic the settings of a high-security museum. Hence the background is surrounded by art and jewellery as well as movement detection laser lights.

As mentioned earlier, Lexus recently launched the NX 450h+ Plug-in Hybrid in Spain. The car features a 2.5-litre engine coupled with two electric motors. Combined, the car dispenses 306 PS and 238 Nm.

Other than that, the NX also features a whole new high-tech interior. Headlining the changes is a new 10-inch head-up display paired with a 12.3-inch fully digital instrument cluster.

The car also features a 14-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity.

On the safety front, the NX Plug-in Hybrid features Lexus Safety System+ 3.0, so the car comes with all the expected ADAS, as well as Risk Avoidance Emergency Steer Assist that brakes and steers when needed, left turn AEB, side pedestrian detection system, and Dynamic Radar Cruise Control with Curve Speed Management.

Closer to home, Lexus Malaysia only recently launched the all-new second-generation NX 250 (RM 370,888, price with SST discount) and NX 350 F Sport (RM 389,888, price with SST discount) on our shores, however, only in the pure ICE guise. No word yet on whether the hybrid and plug-in hybrid would make it to Malaysia. Watch this space for updates.
