You may have noticed our king of the road, the Perodua Myvi, slugging it out in the Sepang 1000KM (S1K) endurance race last year. That made it the first and only Myvi to take on the gruelling S1K race and this year, the team are back with a vengeance for a stronger finish under a new name.

Now dubbed the DMM 204 Speedster, the team are gearing up for the 2023 S1K with new faces and new sponsors but with the same goal of bettering their record last year. The demanding race sees even experienced teams go home empty handed, making their achievement of a P10 finish in the SP2V class and 38th overall in a field of 68 cars all the more impressive.

The team unveiled their new colours and members at the recent International Automodified (IAM) in Kuala Lumpur. In keeping with the Perodua roots, the revised livery maintains the primary colours of Ocean Green with strokes of Red True Blood.

Behind the wheel, the trio of drivers from 2022 have been shuffled around a little. Only Faiz Sulaiman will remain, with Shafiq Rosli assuming the role of Race Director and Fariqe Hairuman as Race Technical Director.

Filling in the vacant seats will be Ashraff Dewal, a local driver with experience in GT racing, and Aiman Haziq, who topped their driver search program.

The new name for the team stems from their new title sponsor, DMM Performance, a subsidiary of DMM Sales, the largest Perodua dealer in the country. Backing the team up are Vort-X Malaysia, EXN, Wrap Autowerks, Raxer Wheels, Max Racing, AES, 4 Qul, Fawster, Recaro Malaysia, RnR Autosport, 204 Autoworks and MS Racing.

Having proven that the Myvi was more than capable for the rigours of endurance racing in 2022, development for this year includes some upgrades in the chase for a higher finish. Nonetheless, the team admits sourcing performance parts has been an uphill battle given the platform isn’t as established as other cars in the segment such as the Honda Jazz or Suzuki Swift.

The 2023 S1K will take place next month from 23-26 November 2023 at the Sepang International Circuit.
