Even though modern Chinese cars are more original in design than those from a decade ago, some still pay a little bit of homage to the West. One of those Western lookalikes is the Ora Lightning Cat, the longer sibling to the Ora Good Cat.
The Lightning Cat was recently spotted in Thailand where Oraβs parent company Great Wall Motor established a hub a few years ago. The Porsche Panamera-inspired EV was previewed at the 2022 Thai Motor Expo (TME) back in December where it went with another name, the Ora Grand Cat.
Since the Lighting/Grand Cat was spotted on Thai roads, perhaps the long hatchback EV is due to be launched in the Kingdom soon? The Porsche-inspired looks might be a bit of a coincidence since the Good Cat was designed by ex-Porsche designer Emanuel Derta.
For now, the Lightning Cat is only available in China though the Grand Cat that was displayed at TME was in right-hand drive (RHD). The Lightning Cat is available in the Middle Kingdom in 4 variants with prices ranging from RMB 189,900 to RMB 269,800 (~RM 119k-170k).
The Grand Cat that was shown at TME is powered by a pair of electric motors on each axle that produce a combined power output of 408 PS/680 Nm. It has a range of 550 km on a single charge according to NEDC standards and this specific variant is juiced up by an 83.49 kWh battery.
Just like the Good Cat, the Lightning/Grand Cat is aimed specifically at female customers. However, it has advanced safety features underneath including Ora Autopilot 3.0 which is aided by 28 sensors and 12 ultrasonic radars placed around the car.
In Malaysia, the Ora Good Cat is available in two variants, both of which are fully imported (CBU) from China which are:
