Though the all-new TNGA-based Toyota Innova Zenix has been on sale in Indonesia since November 2022, the 7-seater crossover MPV has yet to make its arrival in its neighbours in Southeast Asia. The earliest spyshots of the all-new Innova were captured in Thailand but in this latest set from the Kingdom, there are also speculations on its imminent arrival there.
Picked up by Headlight Mag, the camouflaged Innova Zenix was spotted around the northern provinces of Thailand. Sources close to the Thai automotive publication have said that the all-new Innova could be making its Thai launch around the second quarter of 2023.
Built on the TNGA-C platform, the Innova Zenix is the latest and most advanced generation of the Innova. Previously sitting on the IMV platform that is shared with the Fortuner and Hilux, the Innova Zenix ditched the rear-wheel drive (RWD) layout for a front-wheel drive (FWD) one.
Also gone is the ladder frame chassis which is now being replaced by a monocoque chassis that should elevate the Innova’s comfort levels.
In Indonesia, the Innova Zenix is offered with either a petrol unit or a petrol-hybrid unit, both of which are offered with a 2.0-litre displacement. The M20A-FKS petrol engine makes 174 PS and 205 Nm and is paired with a CVT automatic gearbox.
Meanwhile, the M20A-FXS petrol-hybrid powertrain combines a 2.0-litre petrol engine (152 PS/187 Nm) with a synchronous electric motor (113 PS/206 Nm). This is paired with an e-CVT automatic.
It’s likely that Thailand could offer both engine options though the country’s buyers are quick to embrace the hybrid powertrain if it turns out to be the sole engine available.
On higher variants, the Indo-spec Innova Zenix comes with a panoramic sunroof, a 10-inch infotainment screen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a digital instrument cluster, and a pair of touchscreens for the second row.
Similarly, the highest variant of the Innova Zenix in the archipelago is bundled with the latest Toyota Safety Sense (TSS) 3.0 ADAS suite which comprises of:
Pre-collision system (PCS)
Lane departure alert (LDA)
Lane tracing assist (LTA)
Dynamic Radar Cruise Control (DRCC)
Automatic high beam (AHB)
In Indonesia, the Innova Zenix is offered with 7 variants that are priced between IDR 419 million to IDR 611 million (~RM 122k-178k). Not all 7 variants will be offered in Thailand and it could be only the respective highest variants of the petrol and hybrid powertrains.
Just like its smaller brother, the Toyota Veloz, the Thai-spec Toyota Innova Zenix would be imported from Indonesia. However, the upcoming Malaysian-spec Innova Zenix could be locally-assembled (CKD) like the outgoing model which is available in two variants:
