It’s no secret that Perodua will be introducing the next-generation 2023 Perodua Axia real soon; sales advisors are undergoing training and trial production has already started.
Now, the biggest question hanging on the minds of most Malaysians is, how will the next-gen Perodua Axia look like?
After some sleuthing, we believe that Perodua did give us a preview of the next-gen Axia, way back at the 2018 Kuala Lumpur International Motor Show, in the form of the Perodua X Concept, and here’s why we believe so.
For starters is the dimensions of both the Perodua X Concept and the alleged next-gen Axia. According to Perodua, the X Concept is 3,750 mm long, 1,665 mm wide, with a 2,460 mm long wheelbase.
As for the next-gen Axia, Pandulaju mentioned that it could be 3,760 mm long and 1,655 mm wide – these dimensions are practically on par with the X Concept. While Pandulaju did not mention the wheelbase of the next-gen Axia, we won’t be surprised if its within millimeters of the X Concept’s 2,460 mm wheelbase.
Furthermore, according to Perodua’s Chief Designer Muhamad Zamuren bin Musa, he mentioned to Paultan.org that the X Concept is not an SUV, but a regular small hatchback with a hint of SUV in design.
Remember the Axia Style? The Axia Style quite possibly laid the foundation for the next-gen model’s SUV-infused design. Furthermore, the leaked copy of the next-gen Axia’s variant line-up also curiously lacks the Style variant.
In addition to that, Zamuren also told Paultan that X Concept’s size is larger than the outgoing Axia, but still smaller than the Myvi, and is for a global A-segment car.
As a refresher, Perodua is no stranger to teasing upcoming models as concept cars at motor shows. The Perodua GMA Space concept from a few years prior practically showcased the then-new Axia’s interior, albeit finished In white.
Dear reader, what do you think? Could the Perodua X Concept evolve into the next-gen Axia?
