PSA and Fiat Chrysler announces merger group name: Stellantis

As you know, PSA and Fiat Chrysler have entered a 50:50 merger deal to form the world’s fourth-largest automaker back in December 2019. The merged unit has finally announced a name for their new company called Stellantis.

The companies said that the name will be exclusively used at the group level as a corporate brand. The names and logos of the group’s constituent brands (Peugeot, Citroen, Fiat, Opel, etc) will remain unchanged.

“Stellantis” came from the Latin verb “Stello” which translates “to brighten with stars”. The name’s Latin origins is a nod to the rich history of each brand’s founding companies, while the reference to the stars “captures the true spirit of optimism, energy, and renewal driving this industry-changing merger.”

The companies said in a joint statement that the announcement of a new name is hailed as a major step toward completing the deal announced last year while a new logo is expected to come as the next step of this merger. 

Both companies expect to see the completion of the merger by the first-quarter of 2021.
