Last week, several Indonesian automotive websites reported that Mitsubishiâs upcoming SUV could be called the Mitsubishi Destinator. As it turns out, the SUV wonât be given that bold name as confirmed by the Three Diamondsâ representatives.

In an interview with our colleagues over at AutoFun ID, the Destinator name will not be used on the HR-V rival. âWe canât reveal the name just yet but what we can reveal is that the new model will not be called Destinator,â said PT Mitsubishi Motors Krama Sales Indonesia (MMKSI) Sales and Marketing Director, Tetsuo Tsuchida.

The Destinator name had been filed for trademark at various intellectual property offices around the world including Indonesia and Malaysia. The speculation came as a surprise for MMKSI as the name was never mentioned before even among the team.

In the end, the Three Diamonds would only reveal the actual name of its new SUV at the Gaikindo Indonesia International Auto Show (GIIAS) 2023 which will be held in August. With the Destinator name ruled out, what could the Mitsubishi SUV be called?

There are rumours that the name might begin with an X or at least feature the letter. Some suggested names include Xforce and Xplorer, the latter of which is similar to the Ford SUV.
This possibility is hinted at in Mitsubishiâs teaser of its upcoming SUV which featured the letter prominently in the video. Perhaps the XFC name could even be retained or the model could see the revival of the ASX name in this part of the world.

Whatever the eventual name turns out to be, MMKSI revealed that the name would be applied globally though the new SUV is designed primarily for the Southeast Asian market which is Mitsubishiâs core market.
