Mitsubishi’s entry into the popular SUV market, the Mitsubishi Destinator which is based on the Mitsubishi XFC Concept will be making its global debut on 10-August 2023 at the upcoming 30th Gaikindo Indonesia International Auto Show (GIIAS).

Following that announcement, Mitsubishi Motors uploaded two videos that highlighted its design and sound system which is made in collaboration with Yamaha. The Dynamic Sound Yamaha Premium (strange word arrangement, I know) is specially developed to answer the needs of customers in the ASEAN region.

The sound system will debut in the upcoming Mitsubishi SUV rival against the Honda HR-V, Proton X50, and Toyota Yaris Cross which promises to provide optimal sound quality enhancement in the cabin similar to that of a concert hall or theatre.

According to Mitsubishi’s press release, the system adjusts not only the volume to match vehicle speed but also the sound quality itself, thereby delivering lively bass and clear mid and high tones even when driving on a rough surface.

Speaking of driving abilities, Mitsubishi’s HR-V rival has a ground clearance of 222 mm to enhance driver confidence when handling rough roads. That's higher than both the Corolla Cross (161 mm) and HR-V (183-196 mm, depending on variant)

The new SUV is also offered with 4 drive modes – Normal, Gravel, Mud, and Wet with the latter mode developed for the monsoon weather experienced in the ASEAN region.

The SUV which could likely be called the Mitsubishi Destinator as the name was trademarked in a few intellectual property offices around the region is developed with the ASEAN market in mind as it is the core market for the Three Diamonds.

"In developing the all-new compact SUV, we enhanced road performance through repeated testing in Japan on a course that mirrored the road conditions of the ASEAN region, as well as thorough, extensive road testing in the region itself," said Masahiro Ito, chief product specialist at Mitsubishi Motors.

The upcoming Mitsubishi Destinator has been spotted testing in the region in Vietnam and Indonesia, two markets where the Three Diamonds hold a lot of value to buyers. With the success of the Xpander in the region, can the upcoming SUV shift the tide of the Honda HR-V’s popularity?
