Another case of reckless driving while under the influence of drugs have been confirmed. In a video that went viral on 15 October 2020, a man is seen punching firemen on duty at the scene and trying to escape. The man has since been tested positive for drugs.
Kajang OCPD Asst Comm Mohd Zaid Hassan confirmed this when contacted by the media regarding the Bandar Tun Hussein Onn case.
According to comments of witnesses, the suspect driving a Proton Persona had ignored traffic lights stop signs at the junction before crashing into several cars and catching fire in the process.
Asst Comm Mohd Zaid told the media that when the suspect claimed that he was the owner of the car on fire and wanted to get to the car, firemen on duty attempted to calm the man down and advised him to cooperate.
But the suspect turned aggressive and punched a fireman on duty at the scene before trying to escape. At that point, firemen were also worried that the suspect has a cleaver knife in his car.
Thanks to the help of several firemen and members of the public, the suspect was subdued and handed to the police.
The man is now investigated under Section 42(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for the accident that he caused and Section 186/353 of the Penal Code. The suspect will be remanded on Friday (16/10/2020) at the Kajang Court.
This incident happened hot off the tails of another DUI incident that claimed the life of a Navy officer in Johor last weekend. The woman driver has since been charged guilty on 3 accounts.
