Straight away, we would definitely call this Corolla Cross a looker. We initially thought it might look like a jacked-up Corolla hatchback with plastic cladding but this is better.
There is black plastic cladding that surrounds the bottom and the wheel arches. The top of the line 1.8-litre Hybrid Premium Safety featured here in Celestite Grey Metallic has these cool five-spoke 18-inch wheels.
On the inside, it looks similar to the Corolla it is based on. The Hybrid Premium and Hybrid Premium Safety models in Thailand feature an exquisite-looking red interior trim that Toyota calls Terra Rossa.
The Corolla Cross also comes with a 9-inch multimedia display with support for Apple CarPlay, similar to the Corolla. Here is also a closer look at the red trim on the dashboard.
The red trim continues in the rear and just like the Corolla, there is also a rear air-con blower located in the middle. It definitely looks very plush from this picture. It is strictly a five-seater.
That meant boot space is the biggest party piece of the Corolla Cross. With 487 litres, there's definitely plenty of room for a quick road trip with your mates.
Powering the Corolla Cross is a 1.8-litre petrol engine that is similar to the one in the C-HR and a 1.8-litre petrol-hybrid. The hybrid is the top of the line variant in Thailand and quite likely to enter Malaysia. The petrol variant is mated to a CVT while the hybrid is mated to an eCVT.
So, do you like what you see? UMW Toyota Motor has yet to announce a launch date for Malaysia but we predict it should be here by end of the year or early next year.
