The Royal Malaysian Police Force (PDRM) has been using the Honda Civic as their patrol car since 2020. The last generation locally-assembled (CKD) Civic replaced the ageing fleet of Proton Inspira, Preve, as well as the old Waja and Iswara and now PDRM has added another Honda to its arsenal.
A car transporter filled with a few units of silver Honda City with PDRM’s badge on its doors was spotted online. As reported by Careta, sources informed that the City would be replacing the Preve as the latter is discontinued.
Based on the photo, it looks like the police force will be getting the 1.5 E variant of the City which is just a step above the base S variant. The E variant is distinguishable by the 15-inch two-tone alloy wheel design and starts from RM 85,600.
Proton doesn’t have a suitable model to replace the Preve as the Persona is considered too small and does not meet government requirements and guidelines. Meanwhile, the Proton X50 is considered too expensive and in a higher category than the Preve.
Careta reported that besides the Honda City, the Perodua Aruz would also join PDRM’s fleet of vehicles. The SUV was chosen as it could fit 7 officers/occupants while being within the allocated budget.
Unlike the Civic, the City and Aruz would not be used for patrolling duties. As seen in the photo of the City, the units are painted silver and only contain PDRM’s badge on the doors. Hence, it would be used by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID).
