If you told any car enthusiast 15 years ago the Toyota Prius would turn out to be a stunning beauty that is capable of sliding around a track and up on two wheels, they would call you crazy. Well, the all-new fifth-gen Prius is here and all those naysayers 15 years ago are probably gobbling up their words.
The hybrid sedan has been recognised with the 2024 World Car Design of the Year, beating out 70 other competitors for the win. This brings the total industry awards and accolades collected by the all-new Prius to 24.
โWe are honoured to be recognized for World Car Design of the Year,โ said Mike Tripp, Toyota USA Marketing group vice president.
โOur design and engineering teams reimagined what this iconic hybrid vehicle could be, and the response from our customers has been incredible. We are thrilled that the World Car jury was equally captivated by the stunning design.โ
Other awards the XW60 Prius have been honoured with include Japan Car of the Year (JCOTY) 2023-24, the 2024 North American Car of the Year, and 2024 Canadian Car of the Year.
The stunning fifth-generation Prius is currently sold in Japan, Singapore, mainland Europe, and North America.
It was previewed at the Bangkok Motor Show and Gaikindo Indonesia International Auto Show (GIIAS) last year while the hardcore Prius 24h Le Mans Centennial Edition was shown at UMW Toyotaโs Beyond Zero event in February.
Despite the high interest in the new Prius globally, there is no guarantee that the fifth-gen will make its way here. Only the third-gen Prius was officially sold here with the fourth-gen skipping our market.
