2021 Ford Ranger Wildtrak's power roller shutter - here's how it works!

Making its world debut in Thailand last November, the 2021 Ford Ranger now sports a refreshed look and comes with a nifty party trick that we love.
On the outside, the facelifted Ranger gets a racier look thanks to a new trapezoidal front grille, black alloy wheels and a smorgasbord of black trim pieces. The highlight of this update then has to be its Power Roller Shutter (PRS).
It's exactly what it sounds like. Think of it as a powerboot for a pick-up truck - instead of having to physically lift your truck's bed cover, Ford has made it an automatic affair.
The dust and waterproof, Wildtrak-exclusive shutter can be opened and closed via the keyfob, through a button in the interior or a switch by the bed. Pretty cool, eh?

Besides that, the Thailand-spec Ranger still keeps its powertrain from the pre-facelift versions. This means that the XL and XLT variants are powered by a 2.2-litre turbodiesel engine that delivers 160 PS and 385 Nm that's paired to a 6-speed automatic or manual transmission.
Meanwhile the Wildtrak runs on the same 2.0-litre bi-turbo diesel engine as the pre-facelift Ranger Wildtrak and the Ranger Raptor. This engine produces 213 PS and 500 Nm and is paired to a 10-speed automatic transmission.
The facelifted Ford Ranger is one of the trio of pick-up trucks heading to Malaysia this year - fingers crossed, the nifty power roller shutter makes it here too!
