It’s been a while since the Kia Sorento made headlines in Malaysia, but it’s time to give this underappreciated gem another look. Yes, the price is steep – at RM 255k for the range-topping 2.2D AWD variant, many would dismiss it outright. After all, the Mazda CX-8 tops out at RM 220k for the 2.5T AWD. Being a Kia, the Sorento faces the age-old hurdle of perception. For that price, buyers expect a badge with more “premium” cachet. Even I, as much as I admire the Sorento’s capabilities, can empath
When it was launched up until somewhere to the middle of this year, the Kia Carnival (KA4) was the flag-bearer of 'value-driven’ MPVs. You could transport an entire football team in one for less than RM 200k, but there was one caveat – it only has diesel engines here, and the diesel subsidy rationalisation coming into effect meant the fuel isn't as cheap as it used to be. But is it hurt? If you are in the market, should you reconsider your decision? We recently reacquainted with Carlist & WapCar

The 2024 Kia Sportage is gearing up for its Malaysian launch at the Kuala Lumpur International Motor Show (KLIMS) 2024, as bookings are now open. Dinamikjaya Motors (DJM), Kia’s official distributor in Malaysia, has confirmed that this fifth-generation Kia Sportage will arrive as a locally-assembled (CKD) model from the start. While the facelifted Sportage has already launched in Korea, DJM opted to introduce the current global version for Malaysia due to its CKD production advantages. This deci
The 2025 Kia Sportage facelift has just landed in Korea, with refreshed looks and upgraded tech. It's available now in its home market with a range of engines, including turbocharged petrol, turbo-hybrid, and even an LPG variant. Powertrain-wise, the main engine is a 1.6-litre turbocharged petrol unit pushing 180 PS and 270 Nm of torque. It’s mated to a new eight-speed automatic transmission, replacing the old 7-speed dual-clutch, and is available in both 2WD and AWD options. The turbo-hybrid ve
If you're looking to buy a Kia Carnival, Dinamikjaya Motors, listed under Bermaz Auto, has introduced its “Fuel-on-Us” campaign to ease the diesel price hike in Malaysia. The three-month campaign applies to any Kia Carnival variant registered between 1-October and 31-December 2024. 2022 Kia Carnival 2.2D 8-Seater High

Pros
A very well made car as a product. It's power train is proven to be reliable, It will run for at least 10-15 years maybe even more if you treat it well with proper maintenance like any other cars. (no, Malaysian has skwed twisted idea of reliability thinking it must last 20 years+++). Very versatile car true to its class "MPV". You can fit 8 passengers with all their 8 medium size luggages luggages. You can carry 2 person sofas, you can carry large cabinets. Best of all, it has all the power in excess to pull all these load without effort. The engine does not revv all the time when going uphill with full load unlike certain recond models over hyped by other countrymen. Very nice to drive, the car does not feel big, very nimble, turn radius is astounding, the ability to manoeuvre tight spaces is impressive. Safety is also top notch and proven and tested: 5 STAR rating in IIHS and NCAP in respective countries at time of release. Interior is techy and has luxurious feel to it (no, just having leather does not equal luxury, that is just shallow, the whole overall design dictates luxury)
Cons
You will be forced to be a good driver when driving this car: awareness of vehicles around you, how to break the car so you can break without your jittering, judgement of width of entrance, ability of passengers to get off your car, ability to keep to center of driving lane even when moving through curvy roads, parking straight and right on spot with enough space for your passengers and neighbouring vehicles to get down. These are skills people rarely care when driving small cars such as the king of the road, which results in very bad inconsiderate driving and parkings. Drive this car and you will pick up these skills, people will praise your driving skills.
