Toyota Motor Thailand has presented 12 units of the battery-electric 2024 Toyota Hilux Revo-e to Pattaya as part of the city's 'Decarbonised Sustainable City Project' that has sustainable mobility as one of its key pillars.
Running from April 2024 to December 2025, this project will see the Hilux BEV serve as songthaews, or fixed-route share-taxis. They can fit more people than sedan taxis, and are a popular alternative for those looking at cheaper ways to move around the coastal city.
In fact, they're also known as 'baht buses', as most routes charge only approximately THB 10 (~RM 1.30) per person, per ride. Fees for the Hilux BEV songthaews will be announced in due time.
Pattaya and Toyota have been working together for sustainable transportation options since 2022, when they introduced the Toyota Mirai hydrogen FCEV, Toyota C+Pod last-mile commuter, and plug-in hybrid vehicles like the Toyota Prius Prime alongside the Toyota Corolla Cross Hybrid and Lexus UX BEVs to use around the city.
Since then, Toyota and its local partners have introduced Thailand's first-ever hydrogen refueling station for the Mirai fleet that primarily travels to and from U-Tapao International Airport.
