Vietnamese carmaker Vinfast has introduced its first range of right-hand drive (RHD) models in Indonesia, following the company's expansion and launch in the archipelago at the ongoing Indonesia International Motor Show (IIMS) 2024.
Six models are on display – the VF 5, VF e34, VF 6, VF 7, VF 8, and VF 9 – and it's the first time these cars are ever offered in RHD configuration. The company also is in talks with local partners to establish a nationwide charging network.
In the next couple of years, the company is looking to build its manufacturing plant in Indonesia, with a projected capacity of around 50,000 cars per year. The carmaker is also reportedly set to invest IDR 18.6 trillion (~RM 5.6 billion) in Indonesia "in the long term".
This factory in Bekasi, West Java will only be operational in 2025. For its first full year of sales in Indonesia, the cars will be imported (CBU) from Vietnam.
Production of their vehicles won't be just for the domestic markets, as export into other countries are also on the cards. Malaysia is one of the markets on the list, though a definite timeline for when they'd be introduced in our country hasn't been outlined just yet.
With humble beginnings collecting diecast models and spending hours virtually tuning dream cars on the computer, his love of cars has delightfully transformed into a career. Sanjay enjoys how the same passion for cars transcends boundaries and brings people together.
