Following the many sightings of the Peugeot 2008 and Peugeot 508, here's another French car to add to the fascination - this is the 2021 DS Automobiles' DS9, spotted by our reader David Boh Ze Wei.
Based on the same EMP2 chassis as the 508, the DS9 aims squarely at Teutonic rivals like the BMW 5 Series and Mercedes-Benz E-Class, with similar dimensions. Here's how it measures:
2021 DS9 dimensions
Length
4,934 mm
Width
1,932 mm
Height
1,460 mm
Wheelbase
2,895 mm
European buyers are able to choose between three powertrain options: PureTech 225 petrol, and two plug-in hybrid variants, the E-Tense 225 and the range-topping E-Tense 4x4 360. All powertrains are mated to a 8-speed automatic transmission.
The grandeur continues inside, with an stylish interior swathed in Alcantara or Nappa leather, depending on variant. Choice features include heated and ventilated seats (with massage functions), a Focal 14-speaker surround sound system, and a digital instrument cluster.
In terms of active safety, it gets the DS Drive Level 2 autonomous driving suite, as well as the trick DS Active Scan suspension that senses road irregularities and adjusts damping accordingly - just like the Genesis G80 that was also seen here recently.
Whether or not the model will officially be launched here is still too early to tell. Unlike with Peugeot, Berjaya Auto Alliance Sdn. Bhd. (BAASB) only took over the after-sales service of the Citroen and DS brands, and not the distribution rights.
