Since Registrations of Interest (ROI) opened last month, it is now confirmed that certain dealers have already begun taking orders for the upcoming XPeng G6 BEV SUV, ahead of a tentative launch at the end of August 2024.
According to our enquiries, two single-motor, rear-wheel drive (RWD) variants will be offered, with estimated prices starting from RM 175,000 for the Standard Range variant (435 km, WLTP cycle) and RM 195,000 for the Long Range variant (570 km, WLTP cycle).
To recap, the XPeng G6, a premium 5-seater SUV, competes directly with the Tesla Model Y. As previewed in Thailand recently, the XPeng G6 single-motor RWD variants develop 296 PS and 440 Nm of torque.
Following its preview in Thailand, we know the G6 Standard Range variants feature a 66 kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery, while the Long Range variants are powered by an 87.5 kWh nickel cobalt manganese (NMC) unit.
The XPeng G6 is underpinned by the companyโs high-strength SEPA 2.0 platform, which features an 800V architecture and supports DC fast charging with a maximum capacity of 280 kW. According to the company, the G6 can charge from 10% to 80% in just 20 minutes.
Additionally, the XPeng G6 is equipped with the XPilot driver assistance system and a 10.2-inch central infotainment screen that supports Over-The-Air (OTA) updates, similar to Tesla.
Comparatively, the Tesla Model Y starts at RM 191,000 for the entry RWD variant (455 km, WLTP cycle) and goes up to RM 280,000 for the Performance AWD variant (514 km, WLTP cycle).
The XPeng G6 is competitively priced, though the range-topping AWD variant with 476 PS and 660 Nm, which would be a direct competitor to the Model Y Performance, has not been announced yet.
XPeng distributorship in Malaysia will be handled by Bermaz Auto, which inked the deal in March this year. The formal name of the partnership is Bermaz XPeng Sdn. Bhd. Bermaz also manages Kia (under Dinamikjaya Motors) and Mazda under their umbrella.
Bermaz XPeng has repeatedly made it clear that it aims to focus on sustainable growth rather than engaging in price wars to chase unrealistic sales volumes. All XPeng G6 units will be fully imported into Malaysia by Bermazโs AP partner, Prima Merdu.
With a tentative launch date already announced, stay tuned for more updates on the Bermaz XPeng G6.
Arvind can't remember a time when he didn't wheel around a HotWheels car. This love evolved into an interest in Tamiya and RC cars and finally the real deal 1:1 scale stuff. Passion finally lead to formal training in Mechanical Engineering. Instead of the bigger picture, he obsesses with the final drive ratio and spring rates of cars and spends the weekends wondering why a Perodua Myvi is so fast.
