The R35 Nissan GT-R is Nissanās halo sports car but it has been around for more than 15 years. It is even eligible to take part in the PT3 examination and perhaps you might wonder how much it will score.
Malaysian analogy aside, the GT-R is seen as a respected elder among modern sports cars by some and a dinosaur in an age of electrification by others. It was given a facelift, its third, in March but it is still capable of running rings around its more advanced peers.
There have been numerous rumours about its successor with some speculating the R36 will maintain the 2-door coupe bodystyle with a mild-hybrid powertrain but this newest scoop might send some shockwaves to GT-R fans.
Japanās Best Car Web reported that Nissan is planning to make the next-gen GT-R a fully electric 4-door performance car. Think of it as Japanās answer to the Tesla Model S and Porsche Taycan.
While the GT-R badge has always been synonymous with 2-door coupes ever since it was first placed on the Hakosuka, GT-R sedans have existed straight out of the factory. The Hakosuka as mentioned earlier and the R33 remain the only generations that offered a GT-R sedan.
Meanwhile, the concept of an all-electric GT-R might not seem far-fetched as Nissan unveiled the Hyper Force sports car concept at the 2023 Japan Mobility Show (JMS). The Hyper Force might look exceedingly too futuristic and wild for production from its Super Silhouette-inspired design to the butterfly doors but it does hint at the GT-R of the future.
While the Hyper Force has a high-output fully electric powertrain that produces up to 1,360 PS, Best Car Web speculated that the production GT-R grand tourerās power figures could be lowered to 800 PS.
Some of the technology shown in the Hyper Force concept might also make it into the production R36 including the e-4ORCE all-wheel control technology which enhances the handling of the car around circuit corners and winding roads.
Best Car Web estimated that the GT-R R36 could be launched in 2028 which means that the current R35 might continue until its 20th year of production. Now try to imagine what the GT-R's college life will be like.
