If you’re shopping for an entry-level sedan, chances are you’re deciding between the Proton Saga and the Perodua Bezza.
Here’s a low-down on the Perodua Bezza to help you decide if it’s the right car for you.
For starters, the Perodua Bezza is Perodua’s first-ever sedan. It goes head-to-head against the Proton Saga in the A-segment sedan market.
The biggest party piece of the Perodua Bezza is its best-in-class fuel economy. When we sampled the updated Bezza earlier this year, we recorded an average fuel consumption figure of 6.34-litre/100 km, beating the Proton Saga’s 7.2-litre/100 km figure.
Keep in mind that we achieved this figure with the idle start/stop feature disabled, as the activation is rather noticeable and rough. If that doesn’t bother you, you can possibly achieve even better fuel consumption figures.
In addition to being very fuel efficient, the range-topping Bezza 1.3 AV is also the most affordable sedan on sale in Malaysia to offer AEB features, in the form of the Perodua ASA 2.0 suite.
But for those keen drivers out there, the Perodua Bezza isn’t the one for you. Even with the retuned suspension, the updated Bezza does not give you the same level of confidence you get with the Saga. Its tall-but-narrow body does not help the Bezza in this regard, as it feels less planted than the Saga.
Another annoyance is the lack of steering adjustment. The Bezza’s steering column is fixed, just like the Perodua Axia it’s based on. Depending on your height, finding a comfortable driving position without compromising the view of the meters might be a bit tough.
Out of the 4 variants on sale, our pick of the range is the Bezza 1.3 X, as it includes the all-important stability control and traction control. 1.0-litre variants of the Bezza do not include stability control and traction control.
The range-topping Bezza 1.3 AV adds the aforementioned ASA 2.0 AEB suite, leather seats, and a touchscreen head unit with a reverse camera. The addition of these kit is an adds another RM 6,000 over the Bezza 1.3 X variant, bringing the final price close to the RM 50,000 mark.
Over a period of 5 years/100,000 km, owners need to fork out RM 3,149 to maintain the Bezza 1.3, RM 4,131 if you follow the more comprehensive ProCare package.
Not choosing the ProCare package will not void your warranty, but customers are encouraged to opt for these maintenance work to keep their Perodua in tip-top condition.
