Basic information of my car:
2019 Renault Captur 1.2 TCe
Reasons why I bought this car
Renault Malaysia was giving a very good deal at the time of speaking. Just happened there was a roadshow in Mid Valley Megamall and Renault Malaysia was at the centre court. Decided to browse and next thing I knew, there was this special deal that I could trade in any car of any age as long the engine could start and the car could be driven for up to RM15,000. My dad's car was already 31 years old and I thought this was a bloody good deal to trade an old car and get a brand new one with 5 years free service. Hopefully to see more Renaults on the road as Renault does make some great yet quirky cars. You'd be sure to stand out.
Car Selection Process
My budget was RM90,000 - RM120,000
List of cars meeting my criteria are Honda HR-V / Peugeot 2008
Had always love the French car manufacturers due to their unique and quirky designs. Currently owns 2 French babes which are the Peugeot 308 and of course the Renault Captur. Yes, their resale value may not be on par with the Japanese makes, but nothing like driving a continental car. The feel and sensation is just different especially when driving at high speed. The car just feels weighted and grippy.
User experience
I have already done12,000 km. My average fuel consumption is 9l/100km.
Since the purchase, my thoughts about the car are (Please tell us your overall experience of the car):
As I am single, the car fits my lifestyle perfectly. It's a great blend of space, style and performance. I'm getting a 1.8 litre engine performance but paying a 1.2 litre engine road tax. Really can't beat that and not forgetting the full 5 years of free service taken care by Renault Malaysia. That really clinched the deal for me. Tackling uphills and the twisty roads of Genting is good fun but of course, with a higher centre of gravity, there is body roll when cornering too hard. Rims on this model really does make it look swanky though I wish Renault would have gone the extra mile by giving the full LED headlights on the top spec model. Now that would have been really sweet. Easy to maneuver during city driving as it's compact yet still have a respectable front view due to above average ground clearance.
Pros of my car:
Turbocharged engine
Good road presence
Owned a Renault Megane when studying / working in Scotland, had faith in Renault to be reliable and worry free
Minimalistic dashboard with important controls within reach
Love the maroon coloured leather interior, not to mention the hands
free tailgate
Economical yet powerful
Quirky yet unique design
Cons of my car:
Jerky gearbox when crawling during traffic
ICE not the best, perhaps an update is required as sometimes it may lag / hang when opening more apps
Would be great if the full LED headlights was an option or a standard spec for the top spec model
Another useful option to include would be the electrochromic rearview mirror, helps a lot especially when there's idiot drivers driving with the highlights on

Summary :
Renault Captur, the always quirky one in a sea full of Honda HR-Vs and Proton X50s. Come on Renault Malaysia, when are you launching the latest model? You need to bring the fight against the rest with your brethren, the Peugeot 2008.
