The 2024 Isuzu D-Max facelift has been launched. This timely update, approximately three years after its debut in 2021, includes visual and technical enhancements designed to give it a competitive edge in the hotly contested pickup truck segment.
The fully imported (CBU, from Thailand) 2024 D-Max is offered in eight variants, with prices as follows:
Prices have seen increases across the range. In brief, all variants from the entry-level 1.9 4x4 SC MT to the 1.9 4x2 Auto Plus AT have gone up by RM 4k, whereas the 1.9 and 3.0 Premium variants are up by RM 5.5k. The X-Terrain has had the biggest price bump at RM 7k.
In terms of powertrains, the refreshed D-Max retains the same engines as the pre-facelift models: the 1.9-litre BluePower turbodiesel delivering 150 PS and 350 Nm, and the 3.0-litre BluePower turbodiesel with 190 PS and 450 Nm.
Engines are paired with either a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic transmission that sends power to all four wheels (4WD) or the rear wheels (2WD) depending on the variant.
Whatβs new in terms of design?
The 2024 D-Max receives a comprehensive design update starting with a redesigned front grille and bumper, now featuring a honeycomb lattice trim. The model also sports an updated headlight design surrounded by DRLs that double as arrow-shaped turn signals.
Additionally, there is a power bulge added to the engine hood, and an air curtain element on the outer regions of the bumper that directs air towards the wheels for more efficient aerodynamics. The fog lamp housing is larger, and the turn signals have been integrated with the headlight assembly.
Around the back, the rear tailgate has been redesigned to feature a dimple and flared lip at the top edge for a new look, along with a new taillight cluster featuring the 'Triple Armour' LED light signature.
Separately, the range-topping D-Max X-Terrain receives gray overfenders and a new tailgate handle which features a key lock, should the vehicle be fitted with a canopy or retractable cover.
Elsewhere, the 2024 D-Max introduces a new colour β Namibu Orange β which is darker than the previous Valencia Orange. Additionally, there are two new 18-inch wheel designs, dubbed Sporty Style and Tough Style, for the Premium and X-Terrain variants respectively.
Changes to the Interior
Inside, changes are comprehensive, focusing more on the Premium and X-Terrain variants.
There is a new 7-inch e-Lumax Multi-Information Display (MID) screen, and further down, a new 10-inch infotainment touchscreen in the X-Terrain (up from 9 inches previously), replete with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The Premium and Auto Plus variants now feature a 9-inch unit (up from 7 inches).
The seat designs are also new and are available in fabric or combination leather depending on the variant. Rounding off the major changes are the redesigned 'Miura' door trim, revamped horn button on the steering wheel, and USB Type C charge ports for rear passengers depending on the variant.
The X-Terrain further ups the ante with a 7-color ambient lighting package, new illuminated scuff plates, and projected welcome lights with the X-Terrain design on both front doors.
Tech and Equipment Updates
Technically, one of the main highlights is the new Rough Terrain Mode. Once selected, the system uses wheel sensors to detect the level of grip at each corner. It also works with Hill Start Assist (HSA) and Hill Descent Control (HDC) to optimize performance regardless if the vehicle is in the 2H, 4H, or 4L driving modes.
Meanwhile, the ADAS safety systems have been enhanced thanks to a new fourth-generation stereo camera with an increased viewing angle of 120 degrees. The new hardware enhances object detection along the flanks of the vehicle and detection distances from 120 meters to 150 meters.
Another update is the Rear Cross Traffic Brake (RCTB) β available in the X-Terrain variant β which brakes the vehicle under speeds of 10 km/h if it detects objects or vehicles coming from either side.
The X-Terrain also receives a new 360-degree '3D' Around View Monitor (AVM), which can be manually activated via an illuminated switch in the centre console. The Premium variants receive a 2D monitor which offers a rear view and bird's-eye view of the vehicle.
All variants of the 2023 Isuzu D-Max are offered with a 5-year/150,000 km warranty save for the X-Terrain which gets a 7-year, unlimited mileage warranty.
Arvind can't remember a time when he didn't wheel around a HotWheels car. This love evolved into an interest in Tamiya and RC cars and finally the real deal 1:1 scale stuff. Passion finally lead to formal training in Mechanical Engineering. Instead of the bigger picture, he obsesses with the final drive ratio and spring rates of cars and spends the weekends wondering why a Perodua Myvi is so fast.
