At the end of the all-new 2022 Honda BR-V reveal, the company also teased a mysterious model covered under a red cloth.
During the teaser, Honda Indonesia did not say what the model is, but judging by the roof rails on this mysterious model, we’re leaning towards it being an SUV.
The lighting signature of this SUV is different from any of Honda’s current SUVs, thus ruling out the possibility of it being the new-generation Honda HR-V.
Could it be the upcoming Honda WR-V / ZR-V?
Currently, Honda has a rather extensive SUV line-up in Indonesia, ranging from the newly-introduced Honda BR-V, right up to the Honda CR-V.
Where Honda is currently lacking is in the entry-level SUV segment – the same segment that’s currently dominated by the Toyota Raize / Daihatsu Rocky duo, the same duo that sets the basis for our Perodua Ativa.
Recall that back in late-2020, we reported that Honda has plans to introduce such an SUV, which could either be called the Honda WR-V or Honda ZR-V.
In the case of the former, the current-generation Honda WR-V is essentially a jacked-up Honda Jazz, sold in in a few developing markets, like Brazil, South Africa, and India.
A second-generation WR-V is reportedly in the works, sharing its platform with the Honda BR-V.
Further lending credence to that notion is a report from OtoDriver. “The all-new BR-V is a special car. It will be the parent for Honda's new models in the future. Later there will be a Small SUV that will be developed with this platform," said the unnamed source.
The source also said, "This car can be likened to a BR-V with 5 seats."
Apart from the WR-V name, the upcoming SUV could also adopt the ZR-V name that was trademarked last year.
