CKD Mercedes-Benz EQS 500 4Matic is now assembled in Pekan
Priced at RM 648,888, deliveries to start in March 2023
108.4 kWh battery, up to 695 km (WLTP) range, makes 449 PS of power
The fully-imported (CBU) from Germany Mercedes-Benz EQS 450+ has now been superseded by the locally-assembled (CKD) Mercedes-Benz EQS 500 4Matic. Priced from RM 648,888, the CKD model is RM 50k cheaper than the CBU model.
Being a higher range variant, the EQS 500 4Matic also makes more power, at 449 PS / 828 Nm, which is 116 PS / 263 Nm more than the CBU EQS 450.
Claimed 0-100 km/h is 4.8 seconds. Top speed is limited to 210 km/h.
The high voltage battery is the same as before but software tweaks have raised the battery's usable capacity from the CBU model's 107.8 kWh to 108.4 kWh.
AC charging time from a 11 kW source is 10 hours (10 to 100 percent state of charge). It supports up to 200 kW in fast DC charging (31 minutes, 10 percent to 80 percent state of charge).
Claimed energy consumption is between 21.3 – 17.6 kWh/100 km.
However, since this is an all-wheel drive 4Matic model, driving range has dropped from the rear-wheel drive’s 782 km to 695 km, WLTP figures.
Without going into too many details, the short summary of the difference in features between the CBU and CKD model is that the CKD model loses AMG styling package. It is now styled in the company’s Electric Art Line, and wheels have been downgraded from 21-inch to 20-inch.
All other major features in the car are pretty much unchanged.
Driving Assistance Plus Package which includes Active Distance Assist DISTRONIC, extended automatic Re-start in traffic jams, Active Lane Keeping Assist, Active Steering Assist, Evasive manoeuvre support, PRE-SAFE® impulse side, and rear sensors for the lane departure assistant.
MBUX Hyperscreen will be standard in the all-new EQS 500 4Matic, and yes, over-the-air (OTA) software updates are available for the CKD EQS.
The model is assembled at Mercedes-Benz Malaysia’s Pekan plant, with pre-painted body shells from Germany. Customer deliveries will begin from mid-March 2023 onwards.
