Mazda CX-50 Hybrid introduced in the US: 3-motor hybrid system from Toyota, 222 PS/221 Nm

Over in the United Sates, the 2025 Mazda CX-50 has been given a around of updates and a new hybrid powertrain, which is priced from USD 33,970 to USD 40,050 (approximately RM 158k to RM 187k) depending on variant.

The CX-50 Hybrid features unique wheel designs, a different lower front bumper, and an optional new red leather interior. The cargo area has been optimised to accommodate the hybrid battery, maximizing storage volume and the ability to transport large items like bicycles.

The hybrid powertrain, derived from the Toyota Hybrid System (THS), features a 2.5-litre naturally aspirated 4-cylinder petrol engine, a hybrid battery, an e-CVT, and three electric motors.

Two electric motors are located at the front, serving as engine starter, generator, and drive motor. The third motor is at the rear, providing all-wheel drive. This setup delivers a total system output of 222 PS and 221 Nm of torque on regular 87-octane fuel, mirroring the output of the Toyota RAV4 Hybrid.

Mazda claims that the CX-50 Hybrid achieves a fuel consumption of 38 mpg (6.2-litre/100 km), which is about 40% better than the CX-50 2.5-litre naturally-aspirated variant.

Mazda engineers have fine-tuned the hybrid powertrain for responsive driving dynamics, incorporating drive modes such as Power and Trail to tailor the driving experience. The chassis of the CX-50 Hybrid emphasises rigidity, precise steering, handling, and noise, vibration, and harshness (NVH) suppression.

The hybrid's towing capacity is rated at 680 kg when equipped with Mazda genuine towing accessories, suitable for small recreational vehicles.

Deliveries for the Mazda CX-50 Hybrid in the US is slated to begin in late 2024.
