The Malaysia-bound D92A 2023 Toyota Vios has topped Thai sales charts yet again in January 2023, outselling its closest rival, the Honda City nearly 3-to-1.
According to Thai website Headlightmag, 5,400 units of the D92A 2023 Vios were delivered in January 2023, a monumental gap to the 2023 Honda City in second place, which clocked sales of 1,817 units.
These are how things fared in Thailand’s B-Segment Eco-Car category in January:

The D92A 2023 Vios, badged as the Yaris Ativ in the Kingdom, topped the charts for the first time in September 2022, a bit more than a month after its global debut, a lead it has since maintained and grown.

The D92A 2023 Vios (Yaris Ativ) is offered in Thailand with a 94 PS / 110 Nm 1.2-litre 3NR-VE Dual VVT-iE engine mated to a Super CVT-i gearbox.
To recap, the all-new 2023 Toyota Vios is developed under Daihatsu's 'D' nomenclature D92A project code, because the development is led by Daihatsu, under a Toyota-Daihatsu co-owned internal company called Emerging Market Compact Car Company (EMCC).

However, whilst the Thai version of the D92A 2023 Vios get a 1.2-litre four-cylinder to qualify for lower excise duty under Thailand’s Eco Car programme, the Indonesian market has received the 106 PS / 138 Nm 2NR-VE 1.5-litre four-cylinder, which Malaysia could likely get too.
But that might not be all of it, as was recently uncovered, that a new hybrid variant will join the D92A 2023 Vios (Yaris Ativ) range in Thailand by the third or fourth quarter of 2023. This could likely upset Honda’s plans in Thailand even further, where Honda still sells more hybrids than Toyota, and is probably the only market where it does so.

But perhaps, the elephant in the room is when is the Vios coming here?

Well, it is touted that the Malaysian market can expect D92A 2023 Vios “very soon” after UMW Toyota President, K. Ravindran was quoted at a recent media event, “An all-new version of a best-seller, and other new models (are) coming soon,”
