The all-new 2022 Honda Civic FE looks a bit more grown-up than the outgoing FC. Gone are the crab taillights and in goes more conventional-looking ones that resemble its Accord big brother.
However, following last week’s Chinese-spec variants leak we have yet another leak pertaining to the incoming Civic. This time, it’s the powertrain that could go under the hood of the US-spec model.
The folks at Civic 11 Forum discovered some new filings published by the California Air Resources Board (CARB) which showed the engine options that power the US-spec Civic FE.
CARB is an agency that oversees all air pollution control efforts in California to attain and maintain health-based air quality standards.
These engines are the turbocharged 1.5-litre and the naturally-aspirated 2.0-litre engines which could likely be carried over from the outgoing US-spec Civic. Both engines produce 174 PS and 158 PS respectively on the Civic FC.
The document also shows that the CVT automatic gearbox would be the sole transmission offered on both engines. The manual transmission was absent in the document with the outgoing Civic FC offered with a row-your-own-gears option for certain US-spec variants.
Currently though, it is still not known whether Honda has made any further updates on the powerplants to add more horsepower or to further improve fuel economy. The same could be said for the transmissions too, at least fundamentally.
Bear in mind that these engine specs are for the US-spec Civic FE. The specs could vary depending on region. The outgoing Malaysian-spec Civic, for instance, comes with a naturally-aspirated 1.8-litre engine (141 PS/174 Nm) or a turbocharged 1.5-litre engine (173 PS/220 Nm).
Speaking of Malaysia, even though the Civic FE has been spied in Thailand, we should expect it to arrive here in late-2021 or early-2022. That is because there will be a longer lead time required for local assembly.
