The Honda Odyssey as we know it may be discontinued in Japan since late-2022, but if rumours from Japan are true, we could see the revival of Honda’s long-serving people mover.
In a rather surprising turn of events, a report from BestCarWeb mentioned that Honda could be importing the Odyssey from China, as China currently manufactures the Odyssey for its home market.
Sources within Honda Japan mentioned, "Regarding the news about the Odyssey, we will refrain from answering, but we will continue to consider it."
Furthermore, following the closure of the Sayama plant responsible for manufacturing the Odyssey, it appears that Honda has been considering importing either the GAC-manufactured Honda Odyssey or the DongFeng-manufactured Honda Elysion. Both MPVs are sister models and are sold by different Honda partners in China.
Chinese publication Yiche mentioned that the Japan-spec Odyssey could be offered with a more luxurious 4-seater option called the Odyssey Elite.
With that said, Honda is no stranger to importing foreign-manufactured models into Japan. Back in the late 80s, Honda began importing the made-in-America CA-generation Accord Coupe into Japan. More recently, Honda also imports the 10th-generation Honda Accord from Thailand to Japan.
