While the Chery Omoda 5 and Tiggo 8 Pro stealing all the limelight the past few months, keen readers would remember that the Chinese carmaker also previewed the smaller Tiggo 4 Pro and Tiggo 7 Pro as well in 2022.

However, the company notes that the Tiggo 7 Pro will be launching in Malaysia in 2024, and that the Omoda 5 and Tiggo 8 Pro launching first was deliberate based on extensive market research.

"In the initial period, we are launching models based on priority. We should have a sequence. For Tiggo 7, we should prepare based on the current situation. Why we select Omoda 5 and Tiggo 8 Pro first is also because of feedback from the market," said Shawn Xu, Vice President of Chery International.

"When we collect comments from potential customers, from our partners, from dealers, they always give us guidance. That's the reason Omoda 5 is first; and Tiggo 8 Pro as the flagship should be first. So, I believe from today's conference with dealers, these two models will have good sales [volume]," explained Xu, who also serves as the President for the car company's ASEAN arm.

"Later on, we also need to prepare, as well as recruiting more people to enhance our team. When we are ready, the [next] model will be the Tiggo 7," he said in a press conference held at Chery Malaysia's launch in Kuala Lumpur yesterday.

Further to that, a press statement issued by the company earlier today also confirmed the matter, as well as the arrival of the Omoda 5 EV next year.

The Tiggo 7 Pro is a C-segment SUV, sized somewhere around the Proton X70. The preview unit we saw came with a bevy of features (full ADAS, Android Auto/Apple CarPlay to start), and a 1.5-litre turbocharged four-cylinder mill that does 147 PS and 210 Nm, paired to a CVT automatic.
