The Proton e.Mas 7 battery electric vehicle (BEV) has finally launched, with prices starting from RM 109k before promotions. But Malaysia won't be its only market, as it will also be sold in neighbouring countries.
Sighted in the ASEAN NCAP results dossier, it is mentioned that the e.Mas 7 will be sold in Brunei and Singapore. While that's technically still export markets, it's certainly a small piece of the ASEAN pie, considering the numbers there won't be enough to score Proton the 'Number 3 in ASEAN' title.
Yes, though the e.Mas 7 was co-developed with Geely โ with the effort including an R&D centre in Hangzhou, staffed by a number of Malaysians โ the sister car, the Geely EX5, is the one that's being sold in larger regional markets, including Thailand.
In fact, when it comes to ASEAN sales figures, only the numbers from the 'Big 5' markets matter: Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, Philippines, and Vietnam.
Geely has tried to enter the Singaporean market before. Back in 2019, the Geometry brand and the resulting Geometry A BEV sedan made its global debut in the island nation, but the car failed to launch there. This year, their premium brand Zeekr made its way back there, but time will tell how it does.
Anyway, it will be interesting to see how this Geely-Proton relationship develops as 2025 rolls along. For more on the e.Mas 7, click here.
I write about cars, I take pictures of cars, I collect diecast cars, and I go home only to play with more cars online. If I'm not doing all these then I'm shovelling money into my 7th-gen Celica project, @twojetjet.
