Chery Malaysia has announced the roll-off of its first locally assembled (CKD) battery-electric vehicle (BEV), the Chery Omoda E5, at the Inokom Plant. The locally assembled Omoda E5 follows the introduction of the model as a fully imported (CBU) unit in March.
Leo Chen, President of Chery Auto Malaysia, highlighted the milestone as a testament to Chery’s commitment to the Malaysian market, stating, “By assembling our cars locally, it not only allows us to provide more competitive pricing but also signifies Chery’s long-term commitment in Malaysia, fostering job creation and skill development within the local workforce.”

The CKD rollout was attended by Deputy Minister of Investment, Trade and Industry, YB Liew Chin Tong, who noted the progress of Malaysia's automotive sector and highlighted that 99% of the workforce involved in Chery’s assembly operations are Malaysians. This aligns with the government’s localisation objectives that aim to boost local employment and skill development.
The Omoda E5 features a 61 kWh BYD-sourced lithium iron phosphate battery, providing a WLTP range of 430 km. This model is powered by a single front motor that delivers 204 PS and 340 Nm of torque.
Fast charging capabilities enable the battery to go from 30% to 80% in just 28 minutes with up to 80 kW of DC fast charging, while AC charging is supported at 9.9 kW.
The current fully-imported (CBU) version of the Omoda E5 is priced at RM 146,818, while details on pricing for the CKD variant are expected to be announced soon. Chery Malaysia has also hinted at plans to expand its lineup, with plug-in hybrid vehicles (PHEVs) set to join the offerings next year.

The quest for automotive knowledge began as soon as the earliest memories. Various sources information, even questionable ones, have been explored including video games, television, magazines, or even internet forums. Still stuck in that rabbit hole.
