The facelifted 2024 BMW 4 Series Gran Coupe (G24) and i4 Gran Coupe (G26) have been unveiled. Roughly 3 years after their initial introduction in 2021, both models now get a range of aesthetic and technology updates as well as a new i4 BEV variant to top things off. 

Starting with the commonplace updates, both models now feature a newly designed grille, with the i4 having a half-enclosed surface whilst the 4 Series Gran Coupe sports a mesh structure.

Both models also feature a new headlight design featuring vertical LED DRL light signatures. Optional Adaptive LED headlights with matrix high beam and Laserlight taillights are also available. Alongside, BMW has also released two new colours Cape York metallic and Fire Red metallic as well as new 19- and 20-inch wheel designs. On the inside, both models have newly designed steering wheels. The standard version includes a two-spoke steering wheel with a polygonal rim, and there's an optional M leather steering wheel with a flat-bottomed rim available in the M Performance models. The central A/C vents have also been redesigned and are now illuminated.

The dashboard also crucially features fewer physical buttons shifting more controls to touch-sensitive interfaces on the control display or through voice commands. Lastly, standard sport seats now come with the perforated Sensatec material, whilst the M Sport package now gets the new M Performtex material alongside other optional upholstery packages.

Moving towards technology, both models come with the upgraded BMW iDrive featuring QuickSelect, which is based on the BMW Operating System 8.5. Other connectivity upgrades include a personal eSIM slot, support for 5G mobile communications, and integrated digital payment options depending on the market.

Finally, all variants now come with Front Collision Warning, Parking Assistant, and a Reversing Assist Camera features as standard.

What’s new in the BMW 4 Series Gran Coupe?

For the 4 Series, the biggest change is all combustion engine variants now only come with the 8-speed Steptronic ‘Sport’ transmission which previously was only available on the M440i xDrive variant.

This gearbox delivers even faster shifts and features a ‘Sprint’ function for brisk overtaking. Complementing the quicker transmission are steering wheel paddle shifters which are now standard fare for 4 Series Gran Coupe variants.

Powertrains have not changed, featuring three petrol-powered Gran Coupe variants:

• 420i: 2.0L turbo, 184 PS/300 Nm
• 430i xDrive: 2.0L turbo, 245 PS/400 Nm
• M440i xDrive: 3.0L turbo 48 MHEV, 374 PS/500 Nm

What’s new in the BMW i4 Gran Coupe?

Changes are more substantial in the i4 Gran Coupe, where a new variant – the i4 xDrive40 – joins the range. The i4 also uniquely receives the BMW Maps navigation system with a charging-optimised route guidance feature now.

Featuring an 83.9 kWh battery across the range, there are four i4 Gran Coupe variants now:

• i4 eDrive35: 286 PS/400 Nm (Range: 386 – 500 km)
• i4 eDrive40: 340 hp/430 Nm (Range: 468 – 600 km)
• i4 xDrive40: 401 PS/600 Nm (Range: 444 – 548 km)
• i4 M50 xDrive: 544 PS/795 Nm (Range: 413 – 522 km)

The BMW i4 and BMW 4 Series Gran Coupe will be produced at the BMW Group Plant in Munich, Germany, with the earliest market launches to start in July 2024.

Closer to home, the BMW i4 is offered as the eDrive35 starting at RM 279k, the eDrive40 from RM 404k and the range-topping M50 starting at RM 451k inclusive of the (RM 20k) 5-year extended warranty and service packages.
