Elderly Proton Iriz driver crashes into market stall, injuring 3 pedestrians

Three elderly pedestrians were injured during an incident in Ipoh where an 82-year-old driver drove into a stall at a morning market. It was believed that the driver was trying to avoid a motorcyclist before losing control of his car.

Ipoh district deputy police chief, Supt Mohamed Nordin Abdullah, told Harian Metro that the driver had received a shock from a motorcyclist when he was entering a lane before losing control of his Proton Iriz when trying to avoid the motorcyclist.

As a result, the car crashed into a van parked on the side of the street before running into the stall where 3 elderly pedestrians were passing at that moment.

All 3 victims sustained light injuries and have been sent to the hospital for treatment. Meanwhile, the driver was not injured.

Police have already visited the scene and the Proton Iriz has been sent to a Puspakom inspection centre for further investigation.

The case has been classified under Section 43(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
