Chery Tiggo 9 revealed as brand's flagship SUV - 2.0T PHEV, up to 1,400 km on one tank

At the Beijing Auto Show 2024, Chery has expanded its Tiggo range and introduced its flagship SUV, the Tiggo 9.  

Sajdin Osmancevic, Technical Design Director at Chery, highlighted the design inspiration behind the Tiggo 9 Series, drawing from two key concepts: "Conquer" and "Guard.”

The Chery Tiggo 9 PHEV’s exterior embodies the “Conquer” philosophy, featuring an octagonal grille called “Saturn’s Ring,” 20-inch multi-spoke wheels, and the obligatory full-width light bar at the rear.

In terms of dimensions, the Tiggo 9 measures 4,810 mm long, 1,925 mm wide, 1,741 mm tall, with a wheelbase that stretches at 2,770 mm. For context, the Mazda CX-8 measures 4,900 mm, 1,840 mm, and 1,730 mm, in length, width, and height.

Inside, the "Guard" concept is said to create a secure and highly tech-savvy private space.  The display unit at the motor show is upholstered in white and blue leather.

There’s a massive 15.6-inch touchscreen infotainment display at the centre and what the company calls a specially crafted 3D stitched seats. Speaking of seats, the Tiggo 9 can be specified with 7 seats.

Power comes from the brand’s super hybrid DHT system, featuring a 2.0-litre turbocharged 4-cylinder engine that makes 238 PS/385 Nm, supplemented by the system's 3DHT electric motor with a maximum power of 224 PS.

This setup is claimed to achieve 5.2-litre/100 km under CLTC, which is good 1400 km of range on a single tank of fuel.

Chery said the Tiggo 9 PHEV will hit the market in China in Q4 2024, and a range of powertrains include pure-combustion engine variants will be available.
