BYD's new 3-wheeled DiSus technology sounds similar to a certain French car from 70 years ago

China’s best-selling domestic brand, BYD has just launched its latest technology that it claims will significantly improve the driving experience for its users. Called the BYD DiSus System, it is exclusively designed for new energy vehicles (NEVs) and in turn, BYD becomes the first Chinese automobile manufacturer to have its own body control system.
“The BYD DiSus System is the first self-developed intelligent body control system launched by a Chinese automobile company, marking the breakthrough from zero to one. The BYD DiSus System will further secure the globally pioneering stance for BYD in the industry”, said Mr Wang Chuanfu, Chairman and President of BYD.
The DiSus System is profiled in 3 branches which are the Intelligent Damping Body Control System (DiSus-C), the Intelligent Air Body Control System (DiSus-A), and the Intelligent Hydraulic Body Control System (DiSus-P).
The Yangwang U8 SUV will be the first model equipped with DiSus-P while DiSus-A will make its debut on the Denza N7 SUV. Certain BYD and Denza models with hardware availability will be able to equip DiSus-C through over-the-air (OTA) upgrades.
As a systematic body control system, the BYD DiSus System ensures the vehicle is agile and effectively compatible in most driving scenarios, minimizing the risk of vehicle rollover and reducing the displacement of occupants during high-speed cornering, full-throttle acceleration, or emergency braking. In addition, the BYD DiSus System can protect the vehicle from scratches and damages under a variety of road conditions such as snowy, muddy, and water areas.
Almost all of the above make BYD sound like a Chinese version of Lotus, not that the latter is technically under the ownership of a Chinese carmaker. However, BYD has one feature that the British handling legend cannot claim and that is found in its demonstration of the DiSus-X.
At the end of the event, a Yangwang U9 electric sports car equipped with DiSus-X showcased its ability to dance, jump, and drive with only 3 wheels. BYD’s press release exclaimed the demo as “an extraordinary example of the BYD DiSus System - the most advanced vehicle body control system of the industry globally.”
Except it wasn’t truly extraordinary as Citroen had this 3-wheeled feature nearly 70 years ago on the Citroen DS. Now you see the resemblance in name between BYD’s handling system and Citroen’s avant-garde luxury car?
Still, BYD seems to be following the pathway made by Lotus, BMW, and Mazda in offering some excitement in driving. Could the Chinese EV maker make the same association in offering EVs with some fun injected into the way they drive?
