BYD is leading Malaysia's adoption of battery electric vehicles (BEVs), less than a year since it entered our markets, according to data sourced by RHB Research.
The bank's recent report shared that BYD accounted for 37% of the total local EV sphere in Malaysia in 2023. In total, BYD sold 3,728 cars here last year.
That number is more than one-thirds of the total units of BEVs sold in Malaysia last year, which stands at 10,159 units. In itself this represents a 286% rise compared to 2022, making up 1.3% of the total industry volume (TIV) of 2023.
BYD currently sells two models here - the Atto 3 and Dolphin. The BYD Seal sedan is coming soon, and pre-bookings for it are open already.
