The Works Ministry (KKR) has received the Cabinet's approval to implement the non-stop toll collection system known as Multi-Lane Free Flow (MLFF), also known as barrier-less toll booths, by 2025.
To elaborate more, MLFF does not require vehicles to stop to pay tolls as there will not be any boom barriers. Toll payments will be collected via Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) that will work together with an Automated Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) system.
Senior Works Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof confirmed with Bernama that his team has already received approval from the Cabinet to implement the system during a media engagement session on Wednesday (5-October-2022).
The next step the ministry is looking to take is to negotiate with all toll concession companies on how the system can be implemented to provide more conveniences to highway users.
They will also be looking into establishing a command centre managed by the Malaysian Highway Authority (LLM). The command centre needs to be integrated with all municipalities or cities.
Fadillah highlighted that the MLFF is just one of the initiatives under KKRâs Intelligent Transport System (ITS) Master Plan 2019-2023. The plan was developed to improve the safety of road users and drive the development of IPS applications in the country.
Talks to implement MLFF has been ongoing for years now. Various companies have trialed their version of the system on our roads too, one of which is Mitsubishi Heavy Industries. Read more about it in the link below.
