![As Goodyear closes Malaysian plant, Thailand announces ~RM 1.5b plant upgrades by Michelin 01]()
The government of Thailand has announced that French tyre maker Michelin is planning to invest EUR 300 million (~RM 1.5 billion) into the country over the next three years, reports Reuters.
The goal of the investment is to increase production capacity within the nation. Up till now, Michelin has already invested more than EUR 1 billion (~RM 5.1 billion) there, with five plants and 8,000 workers in Thailand having first established there in 1987.
This announcement comes during Prime Minister Srestha Thavisin’s visit to France, where he held discussions with executives from various French companies spanning several industries, including automotive and its related businesses.

Made-in-Thailand Michelin tyres are also sold in Malaysia.
This news comes after Goodyear recently announced the closure of their plant in Shah Alam, impacting 550 workers.
