The all-new fourth-generation Hyundai Tucson has begun its ASEAN adventure as it officially goes on sale in Vietnam. The Tucson on sale in Vietnam is the long-wheel-base version with four variants and three engines to choose from.
Priced from VND 925 million (~RM 170,000) to VND 1.03 billion (~RM 189,000), the Tucson is locally assembled at the Hyundai plant located in Ninh Binh province.
As mentioned, there are four variants on offer, the two lowest variants are powered by a Smartstream G 2.0-litre petrol engine that produces 156 PS and 192 Nm. The engine is mated to a 6-speed automatic transmission that sends power to the front wheels.
The base spec Tucson rides on 17-inch wheels and comes with Bi-Halogen headlights. Meanwhile, one variant up and the car comes with larger 18-inch wheels and LED headlights.
Those who prefer diesel power can opt for the mid-range Tucson that is powered by the Smartstream D2.0 diesel engine.
The engine does 186 PS and 416 Nm and is mated to an 8-speed conventional automatic transmission that sends power to the front wheels only.
Only the top-of-the-line Hyundai Tucson will get the Smartstream 1.6 T-GDi turbocharged petrol engine that does 180 PS and 265 Nm.
The engine is mated to a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission (DCT). The range-topper Tucson is also the only variant to come with Hyundai’s all-wheel-drive HTRAC system.
All variants get the 10.25-inch infotainment system while only the base spec Tucson misses out on the equally large digital cluster.
On the safety front, Hyundai TC Motors offers 6 airbags for all variants. However, the advanced safety systems like Forward Collision-Avoidance (Hyundai’s version of AEB), Blind-Spot Collision-Avoidance Assist (BCA), Lane Keeping Assist (LKA), and Blind-Spot View Monitor (BVM) is available for all variants except for the base-spec variant.
In Malaysia, the Hyundai Tucson has been missing in action since 2020, but Hyundai Sime Darby Motors (HSDM) has said that it will be launching a new model next month and it will most likely the all-new Hyundai Tucson.
