Volvo Cars has opened a new Tech Hub in Singapore, a global hub for advanced technology and manufacturing, following the setting up of its regional headquarters for the Asia Pacific region in the country.
This Tech Hub will specialise in data analytics, software development, and advanced manufacturing to support the company's goal of becoming a fully electric car manufacturer by 2030.
Initially, the Singapore facility will concentrate on technology, software, data analytics, and advanced manufacturing, all critical areas for Volvo.
Javier Varela, Volvo Cars' COO and Deputy CEO, notes that the Singapore presence will bolster the company's technology and software development capabilities and serve as a global innovation center, enhancing their expertise in advanced manufacturing and data analytics.
Volvo Cars is setting up this hub with support from the Singapore Economic Development Board (EDB), leveraging Singapore's local network and talent pool to develop next-generation technologies and vehicles.
Cindy Koh, EDB's Executive Vice President, sees Volvo Cars' decision as a testament to Singapore's appeal as an innovation hub. It will create job opportunities and partnerships for developing new technologies and next-gen vehicles.
The Tech Hub is led by newly-joining director Yvonne Tan, who has a background in research and development as well as engineering.
Similar facilities have launched in Stockholm and Lund in Sweden, Krakow in Poland, as well as Bangalore, India.
With humble beginnings collecting diecast models and spending hours virtually tuning dream cars on the computer, his love of cars has delightfully transformed into a career. Sanjay enjoys how the same passion for cars transcends boundaries and brings people together.
