Last month, Mitsubishi Motors released a single teaser photo for an upcoming 6-seater concept car for the upcoming 2023 Japan Mobility Show. The tri-diamond brand has since followed up with another rear view shot of the concept, revealing it to be a boxy minivan. It’s obvious what this concept will preview – the next generation Mitsubishi Delica D:6.
The current D:5 generation Delica is way overdue for a replacement. It was first launched in 2007, and was last updated with a new look in 2019.
The teaser photo also hints to the next generation Delica’s off-road capability, continuing the legacy of the Delica D:5 as as the only diesel-powered, high ground clearance 4WD minivan on sale in Japan.
However unlike the current generation Delica D:5, this all-new model will be electrified (xEV). By electrified, it’s a vague statement that could refer to it being a hybrid (HEV), plug-in hybrid (PHEV), or even a full battery electric vehicle (BEV).
More details will be revealed in the coming weeks.
Also to be presented alongside the Delica D:6 concept car will be the new generation 2023 Mitsubishi Triton, which for the first time in 12 years, will be making a return to Japan, as well as an actual Delica D:5 support car used in the recent 2023 Asia Cross Country Rally in Thailand, a rally, carrying supplies and tools for the competing Tritons.
The 2023 Japan Mobility Show will open on 25-October, at Tokyo Big Sight.
