Edaran Tan Chong Motor has confirmed that the Nissan Kicks e-Power, an electric-powered rival to the Honda HR-V, will have an estimated price of just under RM 130,000. However, unlike other electric cars, the Nissan Kicks e-Power has a 1.2-litre 3-cylinder naturally aspirated petrol engine (HR12DE). It’s technically a hybrid but with a twist.
Unlike series-parallel Toyota and Honda hybrids, which use both an electric motor and a petrol engine to drive the car, the series-hybrid Kicks e-Power is driven solely by a 129 PS / 280 Nm electric motor, just like an electric vehicle.

However, unlike a fully electric battery EV (BEV), the Kicks e-Power doesn’t rely on charging infrastructure. Instead, you simply fill up the 41-litre fuel tank with petrol. When necessary, the petrol engine fires up to charge the 2.06 kWh Li-ion battery.
The next closest model with this form of powertrain is the Perodua Ativa Hybrid, which was never offered for sale in Malaysia. However, 300 units were leased out for the company’s data gathering and large-scale real-world driving trial.
Nissan claims the Kicks e-Power will offer up to 900 km of driving range, with a claimed fuel consumption of 21.7 km/litre (NEDC test cycle).
Two variants will be offered – the entry-level VL and the higher-spec VLT.
The VL will come with the following features as standard:
- Automatic LED headlamps
- 17-inch alloy wheels (with tyre repair kit)
- Zero gravity fabric seats

- Automatic air-conditioning
- 6-speaker, 8-inch infotainment screen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto
- 4-wheel disc brakes

The Nissan Kicks e-Power will be launched in December 2024, with a public unveiling likely to happen at the 7-day-long KL International Motor Show (KLIMS), which will take place at MITEC from 5- to 11-December 2024.
