After Ioniq 5, Indonesia now mulls CKD Hyundai Ioniq 6

PT Hyundai Motors Indonesia (PT HMID) is considering the possibility of locally producing the Hyundai Ioniq 6 on the back of its current sky-high fully-imported prices.

"If the government requests a higher Domestic Content Level from Hyundai, we will certainly move in that direction because it's a better option," he added.

The fully-imported (CBU) from Korea, Hyundai Ioniq 6 currently retails for IDR 1.2 billion (~RM 363.5k) which has proved too expensive for Indonesian buyers, compared to the locally-assembled (CKD) Ioniq 5 which sits at a more palatable IDR 800 million (~RM 242.2k).

However, Soerjopranoto further added that Hyundai Indonesia accepts that the Ioniq 6 will not be a volume seller and is positioned as the flagship model of the Hyundai Indonesia range.

Currenty, the Ioniq 6 is offered is sold in Indonesia in a sole variant equalling the spec sheet of the Hyundai Ioniq 6 MAX AWD sold here in Malaysia. It features the dual-motor setup delivering 326 PS and 605 Nm. The EV is juiced by a 77.4 kWh battery which offers a max driving range of 519 km on the WLTP cycle.

In comparison, the Ioniq 6 MAX AWD retails for RM 319,888 in Malaysia. However, Hyundai Sime Darby Motors recently introduced two newer variants, the Lite and Plus, for a total of 4 variants now, at the following prices:

2023 Hyundai Ioniq 6 prices
Variant Price (RM) WLTP Range
Lite RWD 219,888 429 km
