GE15: BN promises to remove AP for EVs if you vote for them 01

With the 15th General Election (GE15) just around the corner, the respective coalitions are quickly pushing out their manifestos to secure the mandate to form the next Federal Government. One 'promise' from Barisan Nasional (BN) has caught our attention as they have promised to remove Approve Permits (AP) for electric vehicles (EV).

The benefit of removing AP on EVs is part of BN’s manifesto titled Perancangan Amal dan Usaha or PADU for short. BN chairman Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said that PADU was a new deal from the coalition to Malaysians.

“PADU is not about abolishment or reducing varied responsibilities. It is the plan BN will adopt and do our best to materialise for the betterment of all, InsyaAllah,” he said when launching the manifesto online on Monday (7-November-2022) night.

BN believes that removing the AP would make EVs more affordable and more accessible to car buyers who are looking to go green.

Note that Franchise APs don’t cost money while Open APs for parallel imported cars cost RM 10,000. Both these APs are given to Bumiputera companies.

Also part of the manifesto is BN’s new target to swap 30 percent of the country’s energy generation method to renewable sources by 2030.

There isn’t a time in memory that doesn’t involve staring at cars. After discovering the excitement of watching Schumacher vs Hakkinen, Formula 1 became a major part of life. The love for cars and F1 ultimately led to a job with CAR Magazine. The untimely death of the magazine meant a hiatus from cars at lifestyle women’s magazine Marie Claire before another opportunity came knocking again.
