Styled by ex-Mercedes designer, larger than Alphard, Geely's Zeekr 009 EV to launch in China in Nov

We have a date! Geely’s luxury electric brand, Zeekr, will be launching its second-ever vehicle, the Zeekr 009 MPV, on 1-November-2022.

Penned by former Audi and Mercedes-Benz designer, Stefan Sielaff, the 009 bears a very unconventional design. From a shiny chrome panel for a grille to the unique shapes of its lights, there is no mistaking the 009 for anything else.

Sielaff, now the VP of Global Design at Geely Auto Group, explains that inspiration for the MPV’s exterior design was drawn from the play of light and shadow when the white morning light shines itself down on building architectures. Hence, Sielaff calls the 009’s design concept The Cruise of Morning Light.

He also emphasised that part of the 009’s charm is the lamp application on the front end, the massive chrome panel that serves as the ‘grille’ on the MPV also has a dancing light show feature that Sielaff calls The Spring of Light.

On the inside, Sielaff and his team of designers hope to create a space like a penthouse for the 009’s passengers while the design of the dashboard draws inspiration from Chinese gardens and water elements.

Measuring 5,209 x 2,024 x 1,856 mm in length, width, and height with a wheelbase of 3,205 mm, the Zeekr 009 is slightly larger than a Toyota Alphard. Thanks to it being an electric vehicle, designers were also able to maximise the wheelbase to provide more legroom.

Like most of Geely’s EVs, the 009 is also built on the company’s EV-dedicated Sustainable Experience Architecture (SEA) platform.

Preliminary information revealed that the 009 will also share the same technical specifications as its sibling, the Zeekr 001. So, it will get a 100 kWh battery pack that has a range of up to 700 km based on the NEDC.

The MPV will have a dual-motor drivetrain, each motor has an output of 276 PS while the combined output is rated at 542 PS. Zeekr claims that the 009 will have a top speed of 190 km/h.
